Rich Text Fields in SharePoint Document and Picture Libraries « The SharePoint Engie that could…

Again something really special….

It is not possible to have rich text fields in Document & Picture Libraries..in Custom Lists (or just not Document Based Lists) Rich Text Fields are possible…

One Workaround is using Sharepoint Manager – See here

Another Workaround – and in my opinion the nicer one – is to create a new site content type  (based on document or another inherited column from document) and add a new column with rich text….attach the content type to the list…and magically you have a rich text column…..

  1. I like your workaround in principle… but how do you attach the new content type (which will be under „document content types“) to the list?

If I create a new custom list, I can’t attach a document content type.

And if I create a new document library, even if I attach the new content type, the fields (when viewed with „edit document properties“) do not allow rich text.

Is there something I’m not getting?

The Sharepoint manager option looks perfect… however I’m just an end user and don’t have access to the server.
    Thanks

    • I don’t know. The new field in the Custom Document Content type is defined as Rich-Text? You have to do this, else the field is still only multi line Text….
