• Virtual Machine Manager: Unterstützung für XEN folgt im Mai
• System Configuration Manager: neues Release im 2011 welches “bahnbrechend” sein soll

SharePoint: Access denied error when adding new page to page library

On one of my servers I detected very weird error. There are authenticated users who can add content to some page libraries and modify pages they have made. One day suddenly they were not able to add pages to page library anymore because of Access Denied error. Well, thanks Google, God and Clinton Cherry for saving my ass this time.

Clinton Cherry has very helpful blog entry about this issue: Fixing ‘Error: Access Denied’ error on creating a new page in MOSS.

1. Go to Site Actions -> Site Settings ->Modify all site settings
2. Go to Galleries -> Master pages and page layouts
3. From the list toolbar, select Settings -> Document library settings
4. Select permissions for this document library
5. Add ‘Restricted Read’ access to the required groups.

Super, nun hat der IE (ab Version 7) auch Feeds integriert, aber die Integration ist alles andere als brauchbar im Unternehmensumfeld (insbesondere wenn man mit Citrix arbeitet…)

Die Informationen werden nämlich nicht wie bei den Favoriten im Roaming Profile gespeichert.

  Thanks to a little hackery from Apple’s Bluetooth Update (located here) the Magic Mouse driver was extracted via WinRar resulting in a 32bit version and a 64bit version that you can install on any ordinary Windows PC that will enable all the scrolling ‘magic’ of the Magic Mouse.

The new Team Foundation Server (currently in beta 2) has the option to connect TFS project to an existing SharePoint site. This also allows you to specify on which SharePoint server to create new project sites. For us this is important, because a lot of our projects start way before the TFS project gets created. Then we end up moving all files to the TFS project site, or we have two project sites for the same project. When we go live with TFS2010, we no longer have to transfer files. And we can host the TFS project sites on our company SharePoint implementation, which means 1 WSS server less to maintain. With one of my colleagues we managed to get this working in our test environment. This post shows you how we have set it up.

Problem: You have a scope which depends on some sharepoint items which are required to have approval (like a company blog which is aggregating over different feeds). By default also articles which are not approved are appearing in the core search result webpart (configured per scope)….

Use this trick to exclude them.

Search by Approval Status.

Hand aufs Herz: Wann haben Sie sich das letzte Mal verspätet? „Unpünktlichkeit ist die Höflichkeit der Könige“, lautet ein schönes Bonmot. Leider gibt es viele Menschen, die sich wie Könige gebärden. Die kommen dann zu spät zur Arbeit, zu spät zu Meetings, sie sind säumig bei Projektabschlüssen, genauso wie bei Partys oder Dates. Ein Ärgernis ist das. Sogar ein großes.

Entschuldigt wird das gerne damit, dass der Deutsche ein schrecklicher Pedant sei. Kein anderer im globalen Dorf nehme es mit der Zeit so genau wie die teutonische Bürokratenseele. In Lateinamerika zum Beispiel sei immer noch pünktlich, wer zu einer Verabredung eine Stunde später erscheine – more or less. Mag sein. Aber Lateinamerika ist weit weg und hierzulande treibt das Versäumnis die Leute in den Wahnsinn. Und nicht einmal nur hierzulande. Eine Umfrage des Personaldienstleisters Randstad etwa hat in den USA ermittelt, dass 54 der Arbeitnehmer vor Wut kochen, wenn sich die Leute notorisch verspäten. Getoppt wird das nur noch durch das Ärgernis Klatsch und Tratsch (60 Prozent).

Die Gründe, warum sich einer verspätet, können allerdings variieren. Bei dem einen ist es Überheblichkeit, beim Chaoten dagegen mangelndes Zeitmanagement oder eine chronische Fehleinschätzung: Seit 20 Jahren fährt er denselben Weg zur Arbeit, früher brauchte er dafür eine halbe Stunde. Dass die Verkehrsdichte seitdem drastisch gestiegen ist, auf der Strecke seit kurzem eine Baustelle liegt, sieht er nicht und plant es auch nicht ein. Seine Entschuldigung: der Stau! Eine wirkliche Entschuldigung ist das nicht, allenfalls eine Erklärung.

Um es klar zu sagen: Unpünktlichkeit ist kein Schicksal, sondern unverschämt, eine – more or less – subtile Form von Arroganz. Sie sagt: Anderes ist mir wichtiger. Ich bin so wichtig, dass ich euch warten lassen kann. Und ich muss mein Verhalten nicht euch anpassen, sondern umgekehrt. So wird die Bummelei am Ende auch noch zur Macht- und Dominanzstrategie, wenn man durch sein spätes Erscheinen dokumentiert, dass Meetings ohne einen nicht starten können. Oder indem man nonverbal ausdrückt: Sieh her, ich kanns mir leisten, dich einzufliegen, dich zu bezahlen – und trotzdem warten zu lassen!

Sicher: Pannen passieren. Dafür kann man sich entschuldigen, Besserung geloben und diese auch beweisen. Alles andere aber ist ein Karrierekiller. Der Unpünktliche steht mit dem Überheblichen und dem Unzuverlässigen auf Augenhöhe. Mögen andere Nationen toleranter sein – sie schätzen am Germanen aber exakt auch die Tugend seiner Zuverlässigkeit.
