Visual Studio Extensions for Windows SharePoint Services

Es wurde eine CTP der Visual Studio Extensions for WSS 1.3 freigegeben. So wie es aussieht wird es vor SharePoint 2010 keine neue Version – und wohl schon gar nicht eine RTM geben. Wichtigste Änderung ist die Unterstützung von 64 Bit OS.

Dokumenation von SharePoint Farmen

Mit Hilfe eines Tools von Codeplex kann man automatisch eine umfangreiche Dokumentation der MOSS Farm erstellen lassen.

Das Teil erstellt anhand einer XSLT Vorlage ein Word Dokument. Das heisst man kann somit die Ausgabe ins Word-Dokument steuern.

Hab die Software ausprobiert….Sie macht das was sie verspricht…

The tested IFilters are Adobe PDF, FoxIt, PDFlib.

Summary: IFilter from Adobe is free but really, really slow. The other ones are commercial versions, but much more faster.

Silverview für SharePoint

Silverview ist eine Projekt aus der MSDN Code Library welche es ermöglicht die normale Library Ansicht aus SharePoint mit einer dynamischen – auf Silverlight basierenden – Ansicht zu ersetzen.

Cool daran, ist dass man Dank Silverlight ohne Probleme eine komplette Vollbildansicht hat (siehe auch 2. Screenshot).

Das Ganze basiert im Hintergrund auf den existierenden MOSS-Webservices und kann dank dem vorhanden Sourcecode leicht angepasst und/oder erweitert werden.

Vizit SP

Von Atalasoft gibt es neu eine Dokument-(Pre)Viewer und Bearbeitungslösung auf Basis SharePoint. Damit ist es möglich, online Dokumente (praktisch alles…auch so Zeugs wie CAD Formate) anzeigen zu lassen und gegebenfalls mit Kommentaren und Markierungen zu versehen. Die Previewer Komponente kann kostenlos eingesetzt werden, die „grosse“ Lösung mit Betrachtung und Bearbeitung kostet (und nicht gerade wenig, pro Server 3000$ pro User von 65$ – 14 $ je nach Unternehmensgrösse).

Neben den Anfügen von Kommentaren und Symbolen (bspw. Approved), kann man auch so Dinge wie „Flecken“ (beispielsweise bei Fax) entfernen.

Das Ganze Teil macht auf mich einen sehr guten Eindruck. Die Installation ist sehr einfach, die ganze Lösung integriert sich richtig in SharePoint (Central Admin, Features) und ist usability-freundliche designed(grosszügiger Einsatz von Ajax).

Das Ganze basiert übrigens auf den – schon seit längerem auf dem Markt – Komponenten von Atalasoft (dot-net imaging).

SharePoint Diagnostics

Von Microsoft wurde ein neues Tool zur Auswertung und Kontrolle von SharePoint Server Farms.

The SharePoint Diagnostics tool provides administrators with a unified interface for troubleshooting SharePoint Server performance issues. Use the tool to collect data from performance counters, ULS log files, IIS log files, event logs, and WMI (Windows Management Instrumentation), and then display and analyze the data in snapshots and custom reports.

Das Tool ist Bestandteil des Administration Toolkit v3.0 welches hier zu finden ist.

Das Werkzeug sammelt zuerst alle Grunddaten auf allen Server ein (Logs etc.) und schreibt diese Dinge in eine zentrale (SQL Server) Datenbank. Danach können gegen diese Daten Abfragen und Auswertungen gemacht werden.

Auf den ersten Blick sieht das Tool vielversprechend aus.

Synchronisierung Benutzergruppen AD -> SharePoint

Auf Codeplex gibt es ein neues Projekt welches die Synchronisierung der Benutzergruppen zwischen AD und SharePoint ermöglicht. Je nachdem könnte das ein paar Probleme lösen….

Aktuell funktioniert der Sync aber nur einseitig, sprich vom AD Richtung SharePoint

Custom Field für Berechtigung auf Spaltenebene

Wer mal die Anforderung hat, dass eine Berechtigung bis auf Spaltenebene heruntergebrochen werden kann, kann vielleicht das Secure Field brauchen.

Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 support a rich security model that allows administrators to control access to sites and content by assigning permissions to users and groups for a specific securable object (such as site, list, library, folder and even an individual document or item).

However, in certain scenarios there is a need to secure access to individual columns in lists or document libraries. Currently, SharePoint does not provide out of the box support for securing columns or views. A typical scenario that would require this might be a list that contains a broad spectrum of information about an employee or a client, where certain columns (salary, revenue to date, potential to promote, etc.) might ideally only be viewable by certain groups within the portal.

To address those scenarios, this paper describes a method to leverage SharePoint extensibility and built-in item to level security to allow applying column-level permissions to a custom field type. This is accomplished through the use of a lookup field as the column, with behind the scenes ties to another list that contains the secure values and a method to provision those values back to the lookup only for users with valid permissions.

The result is that in the view mode authorized users will see the content of a secure column as if it was a normal column, while unauthorized users will not see the content of the column at all. This different behavior is shown in Figure 1. Similarly, only authorized users will be able to access the content of a secure column in new and edit modes.
